My Home Town Feb 24 2007

I went for a drive tonight wanting to have new subjects to paint. It was 6:30 pm and still light out which impressed the Hell out of me.

Good Neighbours

Good Neighbours tweaked and done.

This is the tile is did which will be part of a mural which will hang in Wetaskiwins newly renovated City Hall sometime this summer. The theme for the mural is Wetaskiwin past, present and future. This is the house next door to me (though the actually house does not really lean like that). I choose to paint it because after a series of crappy neighbours we finally got great ones. A lovely family from Nova Scotia we soon became friends and along with the neighbours on the other side of us we had some great back yard barbeques. We watched each others kids , houses and pets. (Unlike the old neighbours who had Sofie our cat taken to the SPCA where she was put down because we could not afford to get her out. They then sent thier daughter to tell ours who was about 7 at the time that they had done it. Yup they were real princes).

As we watched our familys grow and change we shared the death of both our and thier Sons. Then the neighbour on the other side of me's son developed type one diabetes. Our lovely little neighbourhood seemed to become cursed for our sons. Both our neighbours moved out and now we have new neighbours. I have not yet met the people who now live in this house, I am not sure why I haven't made the effort. Maybe I am hanging on to a memory of how things were. With the anniversary of Kyles death only a couple of weeks away I am struggling to be social with people I know and like, but I know in the future I will take the step towards frienship with the new neighbours. With any luck they will become friends too.
