My creative juices are finally beginning to flow again. What a relief to be able to put pen to paper and play with my Muse once more. I have missed Her, life is just not right when she is away. Last night We (my muse and I) played with oil pastels, paints, paper and scizzors. Words began to flow that had been corked up tight for at least a month, time whizzed by and the dance of creativity revitalized my soul. Life is Good.

I woke up this morning, to a cold little nose nuzzling my ear, informing me that I was 15 minutes late. As I lifted the covers that had been encasing me Obie (owner of that cold little nose) flew off the bed and landed at the door. With one quick look over his shoulder Obie rushed down the stairs to the back door and gave an impatient yip. Mikey, the more mature dog of the house was wagging his whole back end in anticipation of his, slightly belated, morning constitutional. Dogs are great, neither of my companions thought to berate me for sleeping in, they were just all that more happy and excited to go out when it was time.
Why is it that more humans can't take this attitude of gratitude? People, when things don't go as expected, tend to get sour, whiney or downright unpleasant. Next time you feel a stress out coming on try chasing a cat, digging a hole or even sitting down for a darned good scratch (don't worry about who's watchin either). Trust me, it will feel better than getting angry.

Kyle has been gone for 7 years today I miss him like crazy.
I went home to Medicine Hat this past week.... where Kyle was born. The memories came flooding back of the good times while I was there. I caught up with an old friend who knew Kyle as a babe, so much fun remembering his antics with someone who remembers him with much love. I still love you baby boy and will see you when I get there until then I know you are looking out for me, I feel you with me often. Rest in Peace my Son.

Things are going well in my part of the world. There is still a foot of snow outside but it is not as cold as it was so the layers are getting lighter. I am working at a high school as a T.A. and loving it but am ready to go on when my contract comes up for renewal. I have been wanting to work with street kids for a long time but my home life made it impossible. Now that I am living on my own I can do what I like without feeling like I must put others first. If I am meant to help kids the path will open up to me and lead me to where I need to be. Life is good and I am ready for it

Ok so I am almost there, divorced that is and am obviously still feeling tangled up.
It will be so nice to finally get all the legal stuff sorted out and to be able to start planning the rest of my life.
Now today I finally am realizing that I must start to focus on what I really want to do and that truly is to work with street kids. Now it is all about preparing for that and looking into where my oppurtunity is going to lie.
I trust that if it is what I am meant to do and I work toward that goal that the path will open up for me. All I have to do is follow the signs.

It was a snow day...........well actually cold day....and school was cancelled. Now I love my job at the high school, but, what could be better than and art day with two dogs curled up next to you. Oh and don't forget a cat (or three) meowing at you from in front of the heat vent? Nothing I say unless I could've added maybe some homemade shortbread as my nod to the season.

I haven't been able to concentrate for long on art lately with a few extra stresses added because of the divorce and all the crap that entails at times but today I sorted. I played with tools I hadn't used in ages and just let myself forget all outside of my studio walls. I love spending time like this just me, my shadow and the pets. I am starting to get to know the real me again and I am actually pretty cool. I no longer feel guilty for spending the day creating when there is cleaning to do. I have no excuses to make, no last minute scramble to try to tidy things for a peaceful evening. All my days and evenings are peaceful now and I am surrounded by love, doesn't life just rock?

Trading art again and acting

Well I have started to trade art again. I stopped for awhile as my mood plunged down. I am now on the upswing though and enjoying creating every day. I can't wait for the art to start coming in the mail again, it always makes my day.

I also got a role in our local theater groups up coming female version of "The Odd Couple". I am playing Sylvie and have quite a few good lines. This will be my second role, the first was for adjudication and quite a daunting role to learn. Sylvie will be alot more fun and the audience should understand the plot, unlike the "Bond" which left the audience with thier heads tilted to the side and a confused look on thier faces.

Well what can I say I had a great weekend out with some girlfriends on Friday night (can you say karaoke?), water color class during the day on Saturday (shame the puppy ate 1/2 of my masterpeice), supper at my daughters that evening and an enjoyable first meeting with a new friend on Sunday afternoon.
Monday was not so bad, school went quickly and I had a lovely bubble bath before bed.
Tuesday's here now and it is a warm November day with no snow. I am glad for the warmth and sunshine because nothing makes me more content than the sun shining on my shoulders warming me right thru. Hopefully we will get a large downfall of snow later in the winter to make up for the lack of snow now.

Today is my best friends Birthday. That would be drumroll please...
"Housewife" she lives down the street from me and I am so lucky to have met her. Her and I have been traveling the same path for some time now. Hers tends to be alot more green than mine but I am following Her and her Hubby along the path. She is my soul sister and my life is so much better with her in it. My wish for he,r all that she dreams and more, for she as much as anyone I know deserves it.

A New Day Dawns

I have begun a new chapter of my life. My hubby of almost 20 years and I have become two totally different people and we no longer do well together. It is sad to say goodbye to a relationship where you have grown up together. But we all grow and sometimes we need to take the fork in the road to lead us to health.

Art has been such a useful tool in my dealing with ptsd and I want to share it's healing properties with others so I have started a ningring@ www.healingartjournals.ning.com. I found this entry from the date above, It reminded me of the strength I have inside of me, now when I need it the most. So I thought I would share it again..................

Why I cried oh why is life so very hard?
You heard me and took my hand.
Just when I needed a friend,
I was so very low, you comforted me

I gladly joined my life to yours

Away from the pain, anger,
loneliness and grief that had become
Who I was..
We became joined at the hip

As i slowly disconnected from the pain.
i lost myself in your eyes and your lies.
i felt full of spirit, happy and free once more.
But that didn’t last
Now I can see how you lied to me.
Though you did have me believing you then.
Before i knew it you were running my life.
i felt unworthy, low, weak, shameful,
pained , angry and lost.
i blamed everyone but you.
My core was rotten (so i thought)
So i invited you to fill me.
But instead of you filling me,
i became a shell.
Disconnected from those
who really cared, including myself.
It took me awhile to see you as
you really are and by then,
i knew i deserved you.
i no longer prayed, i just forgot.
The goodness inside of me was fighting to get out .
But along with my feelings
i just stuffed it back down.
Slowly i came to see how
destructive you were to me.
Then one day a voice told me
that i deserved more.

Ok ok so anyone who knows me well knows that I like a social drink or two.
But after Kyles death it got out of control for awhile and I noticed myself spiraling out of control. I had to stop for awhile to get my perspective back. It was a good thing because I could not grieve while numb. ( I guess that was kind of the point really.) ....
Right after writing the above piece I started to collage, trade atcs, do altered books.
I eventually came to see myself as an artist, in a way I never saw myself as a writer.
I now believe that words were painful after Kyle so I turned to one of his mediums ART for a break and it opened up a world of Joy just when I needed it most. Just like Kyle could always do with just a call, smile or hug. He still shows me the way to salvation in more ways then one.
As he stands beside or behind me (He loved to stand behind me one he passed me in height.)
I am Blessed to have been His mother.

Pom-pom madness

I'm working on some pom-poms for Housewife. The problem is that my cats keep attacking the tissue paper.
Housewife is my biggest fan, as I am hers (isn't that how it should be with best friends?); but as for cheerleading I am wondering if the clutz factor may get in the way.
Sure she can bake, write, draw, the list is endless really and she would look hot in the outfit, but, I couldn't have her breaking a limb on my behalf.
Besides it may be the spring in the air and the fact that the snow is finally gone but I am actually not in need of a cheerleader yet.
So I guess I have some time to work on the pom-poms (and housewife her routine) while the cats are away.
We always seem to be ready when it comes down to the wire and I can't see that changing now.
Starting out on my own but not alone. Thanks housewife for being there I love you.

Well things around here have been up but mostly down for the last little while. But the weather here is awesome for this time of year. No snow yet (knock on wood) and the temps are holding abit above zero. I tell you we are doing fine for early winter in (almost) Northern Alberta Canada. Who says global warming is a crock? Is there anyone out there who doesn't believe it yet? They say, yes the great "They", that we will become tropical here one day in the future so hey I will hold onto my property. Holiday condos anyone?

I haven't really alot to say today. I just felt the urge to check in here so you all know I am still around and kicking (finaly pulling out of Octobers depression). I am doing a lot of art journaling which is leading to thoughts of a book about Kyles story and how one mother has dealt with tragedy. If I could help just one person find the light through the dark I would be thrilled. ok so wish me well and keep in touch. Hugs to all my friends

I am co-dependancy, I am a crutch, unhealthy, buried feelings, skeletons in the closet. Resentments, lack of communication, domination, failure, hard lessons Guilt.

I discovered soul collage cards a few years ago and made some. I had forgotten all about them until Suzi Blu made reference to them recently, so here are four of mine. I think I am going to make some new ones as well to see how I have grown, they were a great tool for learning more about myself.

Art is a Dance

Art and the making of it is one of the true joys of my life. When I am lucky (and I make sure to make the luck) I get some time to myself in the studio and fall into the creative trance. Do you know what I am talking about? The sweet spot where color and form begin a magical dance that takes me back to my true self. Belly dancers coins jingle on my hips as the parrot dances upside down in her cage. She feels the wildness in me as my logical brain goes silent so that the primitive can come out. Time loses all concept as the dance of brush, pen and painter rumba across the paper. Another piece of paper joins the first, then a second and third. I hear hubby at the door and look at the time on the computer screen, into the room he comes, laughing at the paint on my face and ready to call for take out.

Why I keep healing art journals

Sometimes I feel like I am no longer needed in this world. Thank goodness this feeling passes because I think we all need to be needed. This past weekend was a hard one for me. Since the murder of my son 5 years ago the month of his birthday, October, has become one of memories both good and bad as well as fears that Kyles murderer will be released from prison to kill again. Kyle was his second victim he (the killer) was on probation working at the Salvation army shelter. My son was temporarily living at the shelter while sorting out his meds for shizophrenia. He had just been diagnosed finally a couple of months before and we were all hoping for him to move back home once he was stable again. He never had the chance the man who killed him was on the prowl in a place where the weak gathered. He will kill again if he gets out he is compelled to kill. There was no anger or rage in the killing he hog tied my son and did things to him before he finally strangled him. Poor Kyle never had a chance, but luckily Valkonen never had a chance to get Kyles body out of the building, which is why he was caught. The three weeks my son lay under his bed wrapped in garbage bags close to the radiator gave him away eventually. But he only got 15 years in jail and has served 5 years now. So time is all I have to pass while I worry about the outcome of this whole thing. Will he get out to kill again or will the powers that be see the craziness he tries to hide? I shudder to think. But in the mean time I have my art journals. They are helping me to get things out rather than stuffing them down inside of me where they could do the most damage. Are the Journals Pretty? no, but art doesn't have to be, not all the time anyway. They are powerful tools of healing and I am so glad to have found art. It has saved my sanity more times than I can count.

Summer here is finally taking off............just at the end..... in a marvelous wave of heat. The peppers and tomatoes are happy as I am at the heat.

I have finally started doing some atcs and apcs again and am looking forward to trading again, it has been far to long since I looked forward to mail delivery.

School will be starting soon and I am looking forward to getting back to the swing of things. The student I work with will be in grade 11 this yearwhich is the same year my daughter is in. It's kinda weird to go through high school with my daughter..........weird but good that is. We have gotten closer the more time we spend together which makes me very happy.

Anyway that's it for now hopefully tomorrow I will have some art cards to upload.

It has been some time since I sat down to blog.

I have been having fun lately with you-tube and Suziblu. She is a very animated, lovely woman who does pretty art and tries to get the world creating at the same time. I love her bouncyness! I am working on editing my third video now to upload. I am decorating a board book for all the world to see...............mistakes and all. What fun.

The rest of my days off so far have been spent next to Housewifes fish pond. Under a canopy of trees with fresh coffee in my hand and a laugh on our lips we are busy solving the worlds problems.

My kitchen is undergoing a huge revitalization this summer. It is going to be beautiful. The French doors are getting to be a reality now that the header is in. Next hubby and friends get to tear down the wall which is currently where the door will be going. I will be glad when that job is done.

I think I smell fresh coffee drifting my way from down the street. So it is my duty to make my way down to it.
It is after all "fishpond" weather.

Renovation Angst

Life, such as it is goes on.

I spent this weekend mostly hiding in my studio from the plaster dust that was wafting through the house. Hubby has started stage 3,600,000(ish) of renovations on our 100 year old house. The lathe and plaster which covered the sawdust insulation is very messy coming down. My kitchen however which was always a good size seems huge now and I can't wait to see the finished project.

I am amazed at the reactions I get from some of my co-workers. You mean things get done in your house? they ask astonished.......my husband can barely change a light bulb.
I look at these women stunned (just a little) by thier husbands incompetence but jealous ........... of the fact that if things need doing in thier houses they merely have to call a tradesman. I on the other hand get to cajole, beg and plead for hubby to finish the projects he has already started. Now to get things started is never a problem, Hub is very eager (or at least willing) to do these reno's, it's just the finishing of one project before two more start that I long for.
Next up Hub and a couple of friends will be cutting a hole in the kitchen wall to insert French doors leading out to the patio. I am willing to admit that I am a little worried about the gleam in the mens eyes as they talk of the demolition.

Apparently a little bit of chaos is just what the Doctor ordered in these mens lives. Not me though......nope, nope, nope I think I will be busy that weekend......... somewhere......... anywhere.......... where peace reigns supreme. Only returning when the dust has settled and my brighter sunnier kitchen no longer sounds like a construction zone.

Today I started out with the intention of keeping busy all day, but not at work.
I took two days off as personal days. It is five years today from the day when Kyle was murdered, here in Alberta the death in Mayorthorpe of RCMP officers was the same date but 2 years later in 2005. It is on the news all day, reminding me of Kyle at the same time. No one is protesting Kyles death but then he wasn't important to the world like he is to me. Understandable I guess but sad to me as his mom. I want the whole world to know how we are missing this wonderful being who was my son. To lament his loss, and cry out for justice. But he was "Just a Schizophrenic" a no one who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Not to me you understand to me he was my first born, only son. He was my joy and my heartache and such a big part of me that I am forever changed and will never Never get over my sorrow at his passing. The fact that my daughter is now an only child is not fair or right and it Pisses me off. But I need to grow and have these last 5 years and Kyle will always be here in my Heart anyway.
For that I am greatful

It's a new day and I am going to try to have a good one. I have been in bed for most of the last 4 days with the flu. I am starting to struggle with the anniversary of the death of my son. I was visiting housewife the other day and she pointed out that I am starting the greiving process later every year. That made me feel better. Grief is draining, especially when tinged with guilt. I know Kyle would not want me to feel guilty so I try to remember that.

This is what happens when during English class. I am a Teachers Aide and follow one student through her day. She needs me there but only to prompt her and keep her calm and on track. I could easily get bored if not for my doodling. The English teacher is wonderful and I find her inspiring some interesting journal pages. Where were teachers like this when I went to school?

Summer is coming fast to a close and blending into what is looking like a fabulous Fall to me.

I hope this will mean that I find myself some time to Blog again. I went through a complete creative block this Summer but am starting to feel the juices flowing again. I did take a course on doing watercolor on clayboard last weekend. This little 6x6 sunflower is what I did at home the evening after the class.

It's been hot here, very hot and I like it. Today is cooler with a lively wind blowing through the trees, I feel refreshed.
I have been storing energy again to start creating . I tend to create in spurts with quite sometime between those spurts lately. Luckily I have my wonderfully creative best friend, Housewife, who inspires me to reach always farther.
I also have some awesome art friends who do the same when I take the time to spend with them.
